New Words

After the last Inchie some or perhaps all of you asked how I put the words for Every Inchie Monday together.

In the first two years after I took over Every Inchie Monday of Kris, I've collected my vocabulary from titles of books. I have divided the title to the 52 weeks of the year and then I picked out the important words of each chapter from the title. In the first year it was "Otherland" by Tad Williams. In the second year it was "Momo" by Michael Ende.

This year I have prepared the words differently. As you have already seen the words are sorted alphabetically. One over the other week I have chosen a color. Therefore I toojk a color table from the web and choose a color for each letter. For the other weeks I gripped a dictionary. There I found the word "ungual".

As it is already October we have to think about next year. Do you like to continue to participate on Every Inchie Monday next year? Do you have terms that I should add to the list? Leave a comment and I will include your term to the list.

I hope you have fun making inchies. I am always thrilled by your inchies and how different each of us makes her small square.

  1. I just joined Every Inchie Monday this year and I have enjoyed it immensely. I don't think you should change a thing! I love how everyone comes up with such different little pieces of art based on the word you chose. Keep doing what you are doing, from my point of view anyway, and thank you for doing so :)

  2. I am definitely back in 2015, otherwise I will have bad withdrawal symptoms.
I love what you are doing too. I like that idea of the "spy secret code" method, where you used book titles. Alphabet series is fantastic. Some other ideas I had:

    1) Think of a the first word, then the following words will begin with the letter of the previous word. Eg nice, egg, good, denim, men........

    2) Have categories or themes for each month. Eg geography, flora, animal world, colours. These are, of course, very typical primitive ones I am using to explain my example. We could have 'abstract nouns', such as love, indifference. Or...... can't think of any other ones right this minute.

    3) Put in 'random word generator' into google and you will come up with several. You could pick out words like that. Or we each could......... whatever works.

  3. I'm fairly new to Every Inchie Monday and I like it so much I caught up on all the weeks I had missed. I would very much like to participate next year. I think you've done a fabulous job with picking words. Zoe's list seems pretty inclusive as to how to get words, but I love your idea of getting them from books. Keep up the good work!

  4. I am like Zoe, I think I would go thru withdrawals if I did not have them. I love how they get me to think. Your words sometimes are hard but again they make me have to stretch and think in my design mode. I truly love it! Me and my daughter were just talking about this today, if you can believe it. Her idea was that maybe we all send you themes, you put them in a hat and pick. Other than that I do like how you do it, but if you want to figure out another way then that is cool too. Love this blog bunches. And adore you for doing it.

  5. I will definitely be joining in next year if you are kind enough to keep going. I think of us an the inchie family and hope others will join us along the way.

I don't mind how you choose the words as your samples are so inspiring.

Great ideas from Zoe as well if you can't think of anything

Love and a big thank you

  6. I'm here with the others! I joined late last year & had a blast. I've managed every week this year so far and inspiration struck whilst walking my dog yesterday as to what I can do for "ombra"!

It's interesting to read about how you came up with your selection of words and all Zoe's ideas look fun. I think we are all agreed that we are happy to leave it in your very capable hands if you are prepared to continue to host this fun challenge.

What you have done last year really through me for a loop some weeks, but that's what has made it sooooooo much fun and soooooo interesting! I love our lil' Inchie family! So if it's not too much work for you I would love to continue doing Inchies!! ( you have know idea the impact Inchies have created in my family. My kids do Inchies. I give them easy words and they have to draw them. And it also has created a learning of new vocabulary words, like ungual ( hahaha) Anyway what you do here is fabulous! So count me in for 2015!!! )Ps. it's always exciting for me, because I do not look to see what the week's word is until Sunday night or not even until Monday morning, so it's always fun to see what's next!!!)
